A social enterprise celebrating diversity

The Social Outfit is a fashion label with a difference. The Social Outfit is a registered charity and social enterprise whose purpose is to employ, train and collaborate with people from refugee and new migrant communities.

The Social Outfit manufacture ethical, sustainable, slow fashion on-site, in their workroom above their retail space on King Street in Newtown, NSW. Their easy-to-wear shapes are made in vibrant printed silks designed in collaboration with young people from refugee and migrant communities and local artists. You’ll also find limited run pieces made from remnant fabrics donated by other ECA-accredited brands including Bianca Spender, Cue and Carla Zampatti.

So far The Social Outfit have paid over half a million dollars in wages to women from refugee and new migrant communities and saved five tonnes of textiles from landfill. In 2018 they won Green Globe’s Community Leadership award for sustainable fashion with an outstanding social impact.

“Education and employment, especially of women, has the highest impact in shaping a socially inclusive and peaceful future – and that’s exactly what The Social Outfit does” Camilla Schippa, CEO
