Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill is a family operated business . Based in the hinterland of the Great Ocean Road in Southwest Victoria, the couple create luxurious, 100% Australian knitting yarns specialising in alpaca, merino and p
With sustainability at the core, 95% of the mill’s power use is offset through environmentally friendly operations. These include a solar system, rainwater harvesting for alpaca washing and local sourcing from within a 100km radius for majority of the fibres.
Their rainwater wash system uses a low phosphate detergent, which enables them to recycle the grey water back into their orchard and all the products are free from dye. This is true to their belief that natural fibres deserve a natural production process; the dying process can be harmful to the environment and impact the quality of the fibre.
Their in-house brand, Zauber (the German word for magic), completes the paddock to product journey that Isabel and Nick set out to achieve with Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill. The brand is an extension of the ethos behind the mill and offers a range of knitted scarves with a variety of knit patterns and designs.
“The Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill is the first wool spinning mill to be accredited nationwide and we congratulate Isabel and Nick for taking part in the accreditation program,” says ECA’s National Manager, Angela Bell.
“In addition to their textile manufacturing they have products available through their Zauber brand which increases the local and ethically-accredited options available to Australian shoppers.”
“We are excited to see another business delivering exceptional products that are sourced locally and manufactured ethically in Australia.”
