ECA-ACCREDITED BRANDS AT MELBOURNE FASHION WEEK 2019

It’s that time of year again, Spring is in the air and Melbourne Fashion Week is upon us. This year marks Melbourne Fashion Week’s 25th year and is the event’s most expansive program to date. With a strong focus on ethical and sustainable fashion, we’re thrilled to see several ECA-accredited businesses featuring in runways, capsule exhibitions and more. We’ve done the hard work and highlighted all these events for you, so you won’t miss out on getting your ethical fashion fix this M/FW.

 

 

RUNNING ALL WEEK

 

 

Fashion Capsule 2, featuring Denimsmith | 9am – 6pm

 

An exhibit of customised standard issue denims by creatives including painters, sculptors, weavers, photographers, costume makers and multidisciplinary artists. This capsule features the ECA-accredited Melbourne based brand, Denimsmith. Denimsmith have been accredited by ECA since June 2016 and they specialise in high quality denim pieces.

AFC Curated – Australian Designer Pop-up, featuring Allora | Various times

 

Allora has been accredited by ECA since February 2017 and celebrates the quality of Australian merino wool in their knitwear collection. You will also be able to shop their luxurious range of coats and jackets all week long, with AFC Curated returning to the Melbourne Town Hall for Melbourne Fashion Week! The pop-up retail space will feature a curated collection of Australia’s independent labels, hand selected by the Australian Fashion Council (AFC), celebrating local and innovative design. AFC Curated invites you to meet the designers in person, connect with their stories, and shop their incredible ranges; many pieces of which you won’t find anywhere else.

WEDNESDAY 28 AUGUST

 

 

The Consumed, featuring REMUSE | 7:30pm

 

Tamara Leacock is the designer behind REMUSE and an expert when it comes to naturally dying fabrics. Tamara will feature during this concept store and performative installation, which will showcase reworked garments, designed by leading and emerging local fashion designers, made from scrap samples and materials donated by local brands. The Consumed is an invitation to view and interact within its manufacturing processes of upcycling material and scraps of the fashion industry.

Highrise Runway 3, featuring A.BCH | 9 – 9:30pm

 

We’re so proud to see A.BCH reaching great heights! Set on the unoccupied 85th floor of the Eureka Tower and with sweeping city views as its backdrop, Highrise Runway 3 proudly celebrates some of our city’s edgiest and independent menswear designers. In this unique and intimate setting, catch collections from this group of designers known for their unique design perspective and distinct edge as they embody the originality Melbourne street fashion is known for. If you have a ticket, make sure to look out for A.BCH as they are local leaders in sustainable and ethical fashion.

THURSDAY 29 AUGUST

 

 

Street Runway 1 – Caledonian Lane, featuring Arnsdorf, Manning Cartell and Viktoria & Woods | 6pm + 7pm

 

Three big names from our accredited brands are going to feature in this runway. Catch this uniquely Melbourne runway as Caledonian Lane is transformed into a showcase of new season looks. Be inspired to refresh your wardrobe as Emporium Melbourne’s retailers showcase their spring/summer pieces. Continue the evening with Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night Out, where you can shop the runway looks and take advantage of exclusive offers in-store.

And then it’s our tour! We hope you can join us for this walking experience. This is your opportunity to tour locations from Melbourne’s Guide to Ethical Shopping and hear from representatives at Arnsdorf, Manning Cartell, Victoria & Woods and Cue. Led by our National Manager, Angela Bell, this unique opportunity gives attendees the chance to discover the stories behind some of Australia’s favourite brands, leading the way in local and ethical production.

MONDAY 2 SEPTEMBER

 

 

In Conversation with Bianca Spender | 6:30 – 7:30pm

 

Bianca Spender is a designer at the forefront of Australian fashion who creates lasting and elegant sustainable clothing for the conscious consumer. She has worked in Milan and spent 3 years with Martine Sitbon in Paris as a junior designer. In 2004, Spender returned home to design under Carla Zampatti and launched her own eponymous line in 2009.

Join her and host Melissa Singer, National Fashion Editor at The Ageand The Sydney Morning Herald, for a conversation on her career and what it means to be a sustainably minded designer.

WEDNESDAY 4 SEPTEMBER

 

 

Pop-Up – The Project x HoMie | 5:30 – 6:00pm

 

The Project’s Tommy Little, an ambassador for ECA-accredited social enterprise HoMie, will lead a showcase of the brands latest collection of men’s and womenswear doing amazing things for homelessness in Melbourne. From Melbourne Town Hall the HoMie team and Tommy will walk through the city en route to Howey Place for a pop up moment before heading along to the Melbourne Fashion Week Forecourt.

THURSDAY 5 SEPTEMBER

 

 

Meet Emerging Melbourne Designers Committed to Local, Ethical Fashion | 6:45 – 8:30pm

 

Meet the designers behind emerging, Ethical Clothing Australia accredited brands Remuse Designs, Vege Threads, Allora and A.BCH. Hear their personal stories, including the break throughs, trials and tribulations in making their mark on the fashion industry, all while staying true to their values and making ethically in Australia.

Town Hall Runway 7, featuring Carla Zampatti | 6:30 – 7pm

 

Carla Zampatti has been accredited by ECA since October 2012 and is one of Australia’s most regarded fashion designers. Prepare for an aspirational eveningwear show featuring established Australian artisans, designers and tailors and discover the art of occasion dressing as these sought-after designers showcase their intricate hand-embellished designs for modern event wear, suiting and bridal. Merging fashion and theatrics, Town Hall Runway Seven is set to be one of the most memorable shows on the M/FW calendar. Featuring a performance by Confidence Man.

Closing Town Hall Runway, featuring Arnsdorf, Bianca Spender, Manning Cartell and Viktoria & Woods | 8:30 – 9pm

Melbourne Fashion Week gets ready to close out its Town Hall Runways with this group of high-end, much-loved labels as they showcase exceptional experimental construction paired with expert technique and forward-thinking fashion design.
